Self-employed? Something else to think about …

If you are self-employed or thinking of becoming self-employed, then here’s something you need to think about.

Did you know that in a recent survey it was reported that just one in eight self-employed people had been able to get a mortgage to buy the home they wanted?

More and more people are going it alone and in the second quarter of this year an extra 257,000 people became self-employed, bringing the total to 4.79 million people – some 15.1% of all people in work.

But ironically as that figure goes up, mortgage lenders are getting stricter and stricter over lending to the self-employed, clearly still thinking of them as a greater risk.

They are certainly putting more and more checks in to every application they get and now want to see a person’s official figures submitted to HMRC, rather than just a set of accounts.
