Is that policy renewal still the best thing to do?

“Your insurance policy will be automatically renewed on …”

If you see this message, stop and think.

Before you file this letter and let the policy renew, just have a look at the details. The price might have jumped up alarmingly for a start. And the policy might not be suitable any more for what you want it to cover.

At the moment I am looking at insurance policies for a number of clients, in the main to see if I can save them any money.

This is a good time to be digging out those home and contents policies to see exactly what you are being charged and what you are getting for your money.

I can help you to do that and check across the insurance market to see if I can save you some money on your policy, getting you the same or even better cover, for less.

It is easy just to let insurance policies automatically renew year after year. But the premiums go up every year and before you know it, you could be paying far more than you need to.

If you pay monthly you can switch provider any time, subject to any cancellation charges.

When it comes to home and contents insurance it is always worth checking to make sure the policy is still covering you correctly.

Did you know, for example, that around seven million homes in the UK are under-insured?

And that people think their contents are worth on average around £35,000 when insurers estimate the figure is nearer £55,000.

You only find out you are not properly covered when you come to claim after a fire, flood or burglary, for example.

You might decide your contents are worth say £40,000 but see that you could save a fiver a month by setting your cover at £30,000. But what about all those expensive gadgets you’ve been adding lately? Laptops, HD Smart TVs etc.

Remember, if you needed to make a claim your insurer might only pay 75% of your claim because you under-valued your contents.

Similarly, the cost of rebuilding your home may have changed so is your home and contents insurance still covering that cost.

All things to consider and now is as good a time as ever to look into it.
