Worrying times make us take stock

life insurance

There is no doubt these are very alarming times and many of us are taking a moment to re-evaluate what is important to us.

One thing at the top of the list is making sure our loved ones are protected should the worst ever happen to us.

Setting aside the very real threat of coronavirus, it is never the wrong time to think about life insurance.

Following on from my previous blog on the subject, I wanted to share with you some sobering statistics on why it is so important to get cover for you and your loved ones.

Coronavirus and many other life-threatening illnesses, ensure that none of us can have an ‘it’ll never happen to me’ outlook.

Sadly, quite apart from the terrifying impact coronavirus is having on the country, people do die suddenly every year, leaving their loved ones in difficulty.

For example, finance guru Martin Lewis warns that one in 29 children lose a parent before they grow up.

Behind every tragic statistic, there is a real-life case of hardship caused by a lack of income to support the family.

And it needn’t be like that.

For just a few pounds a week, you can get life insurance that can mean your loved ones are taken care of if you die.

According to Martin Lewis, anyone thinking of taking out life insurance should consider covering at least ten times the annual income of the highest earner, until children have finished full-time higher education.

You also need to take into account any debts you might have – like a mortgage – and what you would need to live on, as well as funeral costs.

It might sound distressing, especially during these worrying times, but a moment’s preparation and a little bit of money spent now could save a lot of heartache and distress later.

As with all insurance types, life insurance can be complicated and it is worth getting expert advice to make sure you get the right policy for your needs.
